But Vladimir, imbued with the raw materials of his experiences and drawn by the elements of the world, is little aware of his passivity and thinks to see in his schemes, actually cobbled together with a living hand, highly rational ideal forms and norms of reality, until with a sufficient sharp push this latter allows him to feel himself. Vladimir receives this push no earlier than his life’s drunkenness begins to wear off, and only shortly before his deathbed Vladimir suddenly begins to perceive the world soberly. This conversion, a dying turn, enlightens Vladimir; well done during his life, he leaves, breaking off relations on the pure sound of reverent self-pity, peacefully and without leaving a caustic aftertaste.
