The action of the play takes place in the provincial town of Güllen, where life is Lately fell into decline, because for some reason all the enterprises that were previously quite successful have now gone bankrupt. And here the residents of the city have hope for salvation thanks to the multibillionaire Clara Tsakhonassyan. And it seems that there is every reason for this, because Mrs. Tsakhonassyan is famous for her charity, and Güllen her hometown. And Clara really agrees to help, but on the condition that the inhabitants of the city kill Alfred Ill. What is Alfred's fault? Why is Clara willing to pay such a high price for his death? It would seem a banal story... A long time ago, Alfred and Clara loved each other, Clara became pregnant and sued for paternity, but Alfred found two false witnesses and managed to get out, and Clara was forced to leave the city and engage in prostitution. And now she demands vengeance by the right of strength, by right big money. She has already punished false witnesses, who have become two of her faithful servants, and even the judge serves as her butler. Only the main culprit remained unpunished - former lover Alfred Ill ... Will the inhabitants of enlightened Europe decide to kill? On one bowl - the material well-being of the whole city, on the other - the life of old Alfred ... Clara is ready to wait until the thirst for free money defeats moral principles ... Unfortunately, the miracle did not happen and the ending of the story is also banal. Residents of the city, under the guise of restoring justice, decide on a collective murder...
And this seemingly banal story hooked me to the quick. Perhaps because I myself come from such a Güllen, and perhaps because the action of the performance takes place in such a way that you, willy-nilly, feel involved in the choice of the inhabitants of Güllen, and this becomes scary and creepy ... Because, by and large, each of we often have to choose between a clear conscience and material values. And often outweighs the second ... After all, your own shirt is closer to the body ...
As for the acting, first of all I was shocked by the work of Ekaterina Demidova. Seeing how her Clara from a blooming lady in the prime of life turns into an old woman after her goal is achieved, and realizing that this goal was to take revenge former lover, whom she still, paradoxically, still loves, I had tears in my eyes ...
Her Clara turned out to be truly alive and you perceive her pain as your own.

The play "The Visit of the Lady" based on the play by the Swiss playwright Friedrich Dürrenmatt was staged at the Maly Theater by the famous Israeli director Ilan Ronen. The plot is based on the answer to the question of what a woman who has been slandered and betrayed can decide.
A play that makes you think
The action takes place in the small Swiss town of Güllen. Once upon a time, life was in full swing here, several enterprises worked. But over time, they went bankrupt, and Güllen fell into complete disrepair. It is at this moment that the old millionaire Clara Tsakhanassyan comes here to donate a billion to her once native city and its impoverished inhabitants. For such a generous offering, she demands only one thing: to kill Alfred Ill. Many years ago, he was Clara's beloved man, she was even expecting a child from him. But Ill betrayed her, and the girl was forced to leave the city in disgrace. Now she has money and a lot of property in Güllen, which she acquired in secret. The old lady returns for revenge...
At first, the inhabitants of the city categorically reject the proposal of the old lady. But over time, the possibility of easy enrichment overshadows the mind, and the decision to sacrifice one life for the well-being of others no longer seems so terrible to them. Because of material gain, they are ready to commit a crime, justifying it with the triumph of justice.
Despite such a dramatic plot, Dürrenmatta considers his play a comedy. Ilan Rolen, on the other hand, leaves the choice to the audience, allowing them to decide whether to laugh or cry.
