Yulia Samoilova, a Russian participant in the Eurovision Song Contest, which is taking place these days in the Portuguese capital of Lisbon, is among the finalists. Recall that last year Russia did not participate in the competition due to the refusal of Ukraine, where it was held, to let Samoilova into its territory because of concerts in the Crimea. It was decided that the singer would represent Russia next year.
Julia performed on the evening of May 10 in the second semi-final under the sixth number with the song I Wonʼt Break (“Do not break me”).
According to the results of the audience and professional voting, she did not pass to the next stage of the competition. Such a failure has not happened for 22 years, the last time Russia did not qualify for the final was in 1996, when this competition was not as popular and was not given such importance in the media as it is now.
Julia herself failed with the usual phrases of gratitude to her fans: “I want to thank everyone who supported me, who worries about me ... This is a very cool experience for me, unforgettable. I will keep it in my heart for a long time."
First, a few remarks in Russian under the video with Samoilova's performance on the official Youtube channel " Eurovision" (authors' spelling).
Margarita Tsvetaeva:I think it would be better to buy her a Eurovision ticket. And show the ocean, arrange a tour and what else she wanted there. Just don't participate.
DeeMa: What a tin, who even said that she can sing? I immediately wanted to review Bilan's victorious performance...
FactoryZvezd8:They put sticks in the wheels))) Well, seriously, it's terrible.
Thomas Nechaev: mediocre singer. and politics have nothing to do with it
Hitch Kok:It feels like she's on drugs, like she was drugged before a performance. What if there were no backing vocals? What feeling gripped the Russians after such a speech? Pride? In Stalin's time, this would have been called sabotage! I never write comments, but here it’s just bombing !!!
Alexander Shishkin: But on the first channel they said: "The song that melted the hearts of millions did not make it to the final."
Vlad Nedzelsky: Ukraine did her a favor by not letting her in, Portugal should have done the same...
Fatty Clare:I thought I wouldn't post any comments. But no. Russian-speakers will not calm down in their persecution. People, you can try for at least a few seconds, but still see the other side of the coin, no?! Man with handicapped. Man was born that way. A person sings while sitting, it is really much more difficult for her to spread her lungs, to take in air than for those who sing while standing. And here you will say that “it was not a good thing to meddle in Eurovision, if there are such difficulties”, but do not forget that life is given to everyone only once and it has no price. Her life is not cheaper than yours and she has the same rights as people who were born healthy and who sing standing up and sing quality on a different level. All people should have a chance. I am glad that Russia insisted on her candidacy, because she is that rare example that you can live a full life and get equal opportunities for those who, like Yulia, were born with physical disabilities.
“Dmitry Medvedev has been approved as Prime Minister again” “Yulia Samoilova did not qualify for the Eurovision final” such UNEXPECTED news in Lately, straight "I'm surprised." Six months before all this, it was possible to throw a spoiler to people in advance.

A disabled person was needed at a competition in Ukraine, they chose not according to vocal data, but according to appearance and a touching story, she was quite suitable for this. On the wave of hype and general hysteria, they said: then we will send to the next competition! Then they just didn't think about the consequences.

Russian singer Yulia Samoilova, who represented Russia in the selection for the Eurovision Song Contest, expressed her gratitude to the fans for their support.
She called participation in the competition "a cool, unforgettable experience." “I want to express my gratitude to everyone who supported me, who worries about me ... This is a very cool experience for me, unforgettable. He will remain in my heart for a long time, ”said the artist.
In the second semi-final, Samoilova sang the song I Wonʼt Break, but she did not enter the top 10 finalists according to the results of the audience voting and the jury's decision. Serbia, Moldova, Hungary, Ukraine, Sweden, Australia, Norway, Denmark, Slovenia and Holland have qualified for the final, and before that, following the results of the first semi-final, Austria, Estonia, Cyprus, Lithuania, Israel, Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Albania, Finland and Ireland.
Eurovision this year for the first time takes place in Portugal at the Altice Arena in the Park of Nations. The second semi-final of the competition took place on Thursday, May 10. Participants from 18 states took the stage.
It is worth noting that in 2017 Russia did not take part in the competition due to the refusal of Ukraine, where it was held, to let Samoilova into its territory due to concerts in Crimea. It was decided that the singer will present the contest in 2019. The last time the Russian Federation did not reach the final was in 1996 at the Eurovision Song Contest, which took place in Oslo, Norway. Andrey Kosinsky with the composition "I am I" also failed to go beyond the semi-finals.
During the performance of the Irishman, two guys are dancing on stage, portraying a love couple. This dramatization has already become the reason for rumors that the Russian First Channel showed this Eurovision 2018 semi-final not live, but with an hour and a half delay: in order, God forbid, to retouch the kiss (which, by the way, was not) scene. "It's all about the reprogramming that was planned earlier for this time, and not some kind of malicious intent," Aksyuta tried to explain the situation.
As for the number "Forever", which Alekseev performed in Lisbon, it was beyond kitsch. Nikita sang live so-so, and the roses on the performer's back looked like an open wound and looked more repulsive than beautiful. Therefore, having performed his ballad "Together" purely and with feeling, the Irishman made it to the final, while Alekseev did not. As in the case of the failure of Yulia Samoilova, the reasons must be sought at home.
Russia should stay in Eurovision
In Belarus, as in Russia, they also like to blame the "behind the scenes" of the contest and the European attitude towards the official Minsk in the country's failures at Eurovision. But Belarus still accepts the challenge every year and sends its participants to the competition. Therefore, I want to believe that Russia will remain in it and will not follow the lead of those who call for slamming the door.
Competition is what still connects Russia with Europe. Here she is a full and respected member of the European family. The attitude towards Yulia Samoilova, Sergey Lazarev, Polina Gagarina at Eurovision is a confirmation of this. Refusing to participate in the competition after failing to reach the final is the same as if, after the current defeat by the Czech hockey team, they were offered to refuse to participate in the World Championship. After all, both in hockey and at Eurovision Russia has something to be proud of.

25-year-old Netta Barzilai, who represented Israel, was the favorite of the bookmakers. The clip of her song "Toy" with the words "I'm not your toy, stupid boy" even before Eurovision collected millions of views on the Internet. An eccentric feminist electro-pop with elements of rap and a loop showed that even serious things can be spoken (more precisely, sung) with irony. The audience gave Netta the maximum number of votes.

Eleni Foureira performed with the song "Fuego". At one time, she fled with her parents from Albania. She grew up in Greece, where she is a star. But Eleni went to Eurovision from Cyprus. The song was worked on by a producer who created hits for Jennifer Lopez. Both the song and the performance were appreciated by both the national jury and the audience. 2nd place.

Main surprise
The success of Caesar Sampson from Austria was the main surprise of the Eurovision 2018 final. According to the results of the jury voting, his song "Nobody but you" was even in the lead, but the votes of the audience moved him to third place. The black, athletic Linz native is a singer, songwriter, dancer, producer and model.

German success
The 4th place of the German performer Michael Schulte is an undoubted success for Germany, because in previous years it occupied the bottom of the list at Eurovision. In the final of the competition in Lisbon, Schulte performed a heartfelt ballad about the death of his father "You let me walk alone". I am also glad that Schulte received high marks from various European countries.

The success of a street musician
Mikolash Josef was predicted - and deservedly - the best result for the Czech Republic at Eurovision. At the rehearsal, the singer injured his back, but the performance took place, and Mikolash did his dangerous somersault at the end. By the way, he worked as a model for Prada, Replay and Diesel. But above all, Mikolash is a musician. Performances on the streets of European cities helped him gain self-confidence. 6th place.

San Remo Festival Winners
The song "Non mi avete fatto niente" by the Italian duo, who took 5th place in Lisbon, spoke about terror. This is another proof that the audience and the jury of the competition appreciate not only the colorfulness of the show. Ermala Meta and Fabrizio Moro got the opportunity to represent Italy in Lisbon as winners music festival in Sanremo. Deservedly received. .

The Swede Benjamin Ingrosso has Italian roots. With Eurovision, he has, so to speak, family ties: His parents met while performing together at the Swedish preliminaries, and his uncle's wife, Charlotte Perelli, even won Eurovision in 1999. His composition during the voting was among the leaders for a long time. But in the end she took 7th place.

The highest notes
The highest notes at Eurovision 2018 were for Estonia. Elina Nechaeva - professional Opera singer and works at the Tallinn Opera House. The composition "La Forza" in Italian is a kind of opera aria in a pop arrangement. The text contained many quotations from operatic works. Decent 8th place.

Performance for happiness
The performance "My Lucky Day" from Moldova diluted a certain seriousness of the current "Eurovision". The performance of the DoReDos trio was notable for the fact that Philip Kirkorov wrote the music for it. The video was filmed in Greece. The trio participates in Eurovision from the third attempt. In 2017 they won the festival " New wave"in Sochi, where Kirkorov drew attention to them. 10th place.

...And others
Perhaps the main surprise of the Eurovision 2018 semi-finals was the performance of the Lithuanian singer Eva Zasimauskaite. At first, the bookies believed that she would not reach the final at all, but after her brilliant performance in the semi-finals, Eva was among the favorites of the competition. Her song "Wenn we´re old" was romantic and touching. She barely made it to the top ten. 12th place.

Alexander Rybak, a Belarusian by origin, again played for Norway. The song "Fairytale" brought him victory nine years ago in Moscow. In Lisbon, his composition "That's How You Write A Song" appeared on the list of favorites, but compared to other performances, it did not look too bright. Only 15th place was enough.

Ineffective Effects
The representative of Ukraine Melovin (this is the stage name of Konstantin Bocharov) impressed the audience of the second semi-final with his "technological" show and a lens in his eye. But the sea of fire, the piano-coffin and other effects left the national juries indifferent. Only thanks to the support of the audience, the song "Under the Ladder" left the "cellars" of the rating and eventually took 17th place.
12:32 14.05.2018
Ukrainians have a traditional folk pastime since 2004: to watch "" and not understand the results, no matter what they turn out to be. Only the lucky Alexander Ponomarev, who represented Ukraine at the song contest in 2003, escaped the cup of public attention and subsequent anger.
Yesterday early in the morning (or the day before yesterday late at night, as you prefer) Ukrainian Melovin, aka 21-year-old Kostya Bocharov, performed at Eurovision 2018 and took 17th place in the final race. Netta Barzilai won the competition with the song Toy, representing Israel.
Predictably, the result was discussed - and angrily, and enthusiastically, and wary, and somewhere in between - by the vast majority of the audience of the competition. Basically - on emotions (and therefore, instead of a productive discussion - in the form of banal FB-sracha).
Of course, I really like to read such showdowns between producers that the feathers fly, but as a nanny I just have to call everyone to order. And in order to put the same order in this discussion, I will try to provide you with enough facts and context.
For example, context one. Ukraine participated in Eurovision only 15 times. During this time, she won twice and hosted the competition at home. Ukraine is also one of only two countries (not counting the "big five" France, Spain, Italy, Germany and the UK, which are on the default list) that always qualify for the final of the competition. In 2018, Russia dropped out of this short list, while Australia has been participating since 2015.
If you are in mourning for 17th place, try to imagine how disappointed Cyprus, which has been participating in the competition since 1981, Elena Loboda Foureira is their 35th representative, and the country has never won.
However, I understand that it is difficult to sympathize with other losers until you understand the reasons for your own defeat. Especially for this reason, I have collected all versions of the possible and impossible reasons for such a Melovin result (especially the part of his points that relates to the jury's decision), and I propose to consider each in detail.
Version one. Revenge to Ukraine
The fact that Ukraine is not on the "black list" of Eurovision is not due to us, but to the exceptional European Broadcasting Council itself, which simply did not reach such methods as "black lists". For many reasons. One of them is last year's scandal with the exclusion of Yulia Samoilova from the song contest, in which Russia, of course, rested against the horn and did not make the compromises that the EBU was so eager for, but Ukraine also rested against the same horn in the same place and also did not consider no options for compromise.
Thus, the most popular opinion in social networks - a professional jury, on orders from above or out of solidarity with Yulia Samoilova (from the workshop to the banal “sorry for the girl”), boycotted Ukraine in punishment for last year’s demarche.
Since a professional jury is not thousands, but only a few hundred people, collectively evoking such a simple emotion in them is not even a very difficult task.
Version two. Holiday on a foreign street
“The owners of Eurovision want to return the competition to Old Europe from the Slavic part,” Andrei Danilko suggests in a commentary to the Vesti newspaper. Therefore, they say, gave a pointer not to give points to Eastern European countries.
The version is not devoid of plausibility, but just does not coincide with the facts. It's like saying that the maniac Chikatilo killed Sharon Tate. The “profiles” coincide, but this has nothing to do with reality: in addition to Ukraine, the outsiders of the professional jury vote were Portugal (21 points), Great Britain and Finland (23 points each), as well as Hungary (28 points). At the same time, the “Old European” trend is really noticeable in the leaders: Austria (271), Sweden (253), Israel (212) and Germany (204) gave the most points.
There is nothing surprising in this: long before Brexit, but especially brightly - right after it - in Europe, which is usually attributed to tolerance, the mood "come in large numbers here" and the unwillingness to "sponsor a holiday on a strange street" dominate. The Big Five do not openly talk about this, but they think to themselves that paying for Eurovision in Kyiv, Minsk or even Ljubljana is not comme il faut. By the way, we will return to this idea later.
But rather, it is a trend to imitate the leaders of the charts, since Shawn Mendes performed for the poor under the flag of Austria, Shezia was represented by the white and male version of Janelle Monet (or the young Jemirokwai), Germany was a watercolor copy of Ed Sheeran, and Israel's performance, although Netta is often compared for external resemblance to Björk, was musically stencilled by Dua Lipa. The professional jury focuses on the European and American top 40 charts, and this has never surprised anyone. By the way, the next subject for discussion also grows from here.
Version three. The pros just didn't like the number
Let's not forget how a professional jury differs from an ordinary spectator: the fact that they are constantly engaged in songs and performances, and know them a lot and different. And to deny that in the speech of the representative of Ukraine everything was somewhat secondary, from image and vocal manner of Adam Labmert sample of 2010, before the song in the style of The Fray of early 2011 until arrangements and productions a la Lady Gaga on the Monster tour.
Even the obligatory Millenial Whoop on the chorus. You can not take my word for it and listen:
This version is most often heard in Western critical reviews of Eurovision. The Daily Mail, for example, claims that Melovin "gathered every idea that ever crossed his mind in his daydreams about big stage, and implemented them in one issue.
Blaming an artist who is barely 21 for compiling in his music, lyrics and performances what the idols liked is quite hypocritical (and simply stupid, given that this artist and his song were chosen by millions of viewers who voted in the National Selection) , but you shouldn't close your eyes to the fact that there were a lot of clichés in the performance.
Version four. vampire
In the eyes of a professional jury, there is no stigma worse than Count Dracula. In 2016, while you were fascinated by the confrontation between Jamala, Sergey Lazarev and Dami Im, the representative of Poland, who, by the way, was also dubbed by the press in advance as a vampire aristocrat, took the final eighth place.
Michal Shpak received only 7 points from the professional jury - even less than Melovin's current 11 points - but third in teleouting with 229 points and a final eighth in the standings.
Do now with the knowledge of this fact what you will. But, perhaps, one should beware of comparison with Draculas, Lucifers, and at the same time demonic figures in general within the framework of the competition?
Version five. Economic
The ban on Yulia Samoilova's participation in Eurovision, besides being the decision not of Eurovision but of the SBU, turned out to be not the most problematic element of last year's contest. Say thanks to Pavel Hrytsak and his team, who held Eurovision 2017 in Ukraine at the highest level.
At such a high level that many music producers, representatives of the EBU and their permanent partners have sworn off to cooperate with the Ukrainian organizers forever.
Eurovision 2017 in Kiev was rich (compared to this year's Lisbon, many paid attention to this), but at such a price that the organizers, having nothing against Eastern Europe in general, would really not want the contest to return to Ukraine in the near future.
For the search for evidence, adherents of this version recommend going to tenders for ProZorro and documents on disputes between the EBU and NOTU. Something tells me that there really is find material on a dozen conspiracy theories.
Version six. Karmic
This version is followed only by the producers of Tayanna, who did not forgive Kostya for the victory in the STB national selection, and their friends. Like, the place of MELOVIN is a natural result of the "injustice" of the national selection.
They especially diverged in the Facebook comments of Igor Kondratyuk:
From Denis Zhupnik from the M2 channel to Tayanna's producer Mikhail Yasinsky:
Here is the head of the M1 TV channel Andrey Pertsen there too
It is pointless to refute this version, since the more you fight conspiracy theories, the more you convince the authors of their veracity. But factual errors and contradiction to the logic of the conspirators are not embarrassed.
Version seven. Something went wrong at rehearsal
Spectator televoting is carried out according to the results of the final after live broadcast. The professional jury votes after the final rehearsal. On which anything could go "wrong" - from the sound, which is traditionally badly mixed at Eurovision, to the performance itself, where the artist could, for various reasons, perform worse than in the final. This will remain a secret, shrouded in darkness, for everyone, except for the spectators themselves, who watched the final rehearsal in the hall.
Every year after Eurovision, someone considers the results of a professional jury more fair, and someone prefers the results of televoting:
More often than not, this version is taken to extremes. Among the most ardent supporters, there is an opinion, for example, that the jury consists entirely of people who are sick of taste, who do not understand Eurovision and are out of touch with reality.
I won't try to convince you if it's true or not. Let's just answer the question directly: "Who are these people?" Moreover, it is not a secret.
MOSCOW, May 12 - RIA Novosti. Singer Yulia Samoilova, who represented Russia at the Eurovision Song Contest in Lisbon, did not make it to the final. Thus, for the first time since 2004, when the semi-finals were introduced, Russia did not qualify for the final of the competition.
Samoilova on Thursday performed in the second semi-final of the contest under the sixth number with the song "I Won" t Break ". However, the votes of the audience and the professional jury were not enough to reach the final.
Music critics and performers commented on Samoilova's performance.
"realized a dream"
Russian singer Prokhor Chaliapin, in an interview with the TV channel "", said that he initially knew that Samoilova would not go to the final of the competition because of her vocal abilities.
"The strongest vocalists should represent the country there, the best, like at the Olympics. In any case, I think this is a gift for her, she realized her dream. She was given the opportunity and showed that any person in our country can fulfill his dream" Chaliapin said.
The singer noted that there are many talented performers in Russia who should be given the opportunity to participate in such competitions.
Chaliapin criticized those who made the decision to send Samoilova to the competition.
"This is a cheap speculation. Who came up with all this initially - to send it to Eurovision - these are cruel, prudent people whom the Lord will surely punish," he summed up.
Yulia Samoilova is a very brave singer, however, in order to succeed, a stronger vocalist should have been sent to Eurovision, singer Leonid Agutin believes.
According to the singer, it was clear from the very beginning that Samoilova would not make it to the final. “Yulia has a very good soul, she is a wonderful person, very courageous. But if we are doing a charity event, then there is no need to worry that we have not gone anywhere,” Agutin said.
Don't make a tragedy
Producer and music journalist Artur Gasparyan believes that the main thing is not to make a national tragedy. In his opinion, this year's competition is serious and all participants are very strong. "For her part, Julia did everything possible, what she could do," he said in an interview with "".
According to Gasparyan, the singer has a modest vocal apparatus, so she needed to make more efforts in preparation.
Samoilova, during her performance in the semifinals, did not understand where she was and was in prostration, music critic Sergei Sosedov said in an interview.
“There was a place, she forgot where to enter, missed the floor of the musical phrase. musical phrase. She had such a helpless and confused smile. She was generally confused, not herself, "said the critic.
According to Sosedov, Samoilova's number was the worst in the history of Russia's participation in Eurovision.
Eurovision final
Representatives of Israel, Estonia, Czech Republic, Austria, Cyprus, Bulgaria, Albania, Finland, Ireland, Lithuania, Norway, Serbia, Denmark, Moldova, the Netherlands, Australia, Hungary, Sweden, Slovenia and Ukraine reached the final part of the competition.
Eurovision this year takes place for the first time in Portugal at the Altice Arena in the Parque des Nations. The official opening of the competition took place on Sunday on the banks of the Tagus River.
